let me educate you small child
this may be shocking, especially considering how uplifting and cheerful of a show the 100 is, but….
all your faves, all my faves, all the Pope’s faves, are problematic. That’s the point.
Let’s tally this shit up:
Clarke: came up with the plan to kill 300 grounders in a ring of fire. Made the decision to eradicate Mount Weather, killing hundreds of mountain people, including kids and angels like Maya. Let a bomb drop on her allies & her own people, killing hundreds more. Death tally: roughly 1000 give or take nbd
Monty: killed someone with a shot gun, made it possible to eradicate MW (killing hundreds of people), killed his own mother.
Jasper: literally axed someone crawling away in the back. Made it possible to burn 300 grounders alive.
Octavia: slapped her boyfriend who was struggling with an addiction, beat her own brother, who happened to be chained up, to a bloody pulp, stabbed/sliced a few people with her sword.
Raven: brains behind burning the grounders, blew up the bridge & grounders close to it, burned roughly 2 months of oxygen by doing an illegal space walk.
Finn: shot and killed 18 unarmed grounders (mostly the elderly and children), executed a grounder without blinking, was willing to leave a girl on a cliff to die
Murphy: killed two people out of revenge
Lexa: probably had a hand in killing thousands if we’re being honest, including those who died in TonDC, that dudebro she kicked off the building, the guy she left as bait to be killed by the giant ape, literally all the people who died in MW because she abandoned her allies, all the kids she would have killed to win the conclave, ordered Finn’s death by a thousand knives and fire and shit, stabbed her trusted advisor and protector because he tried to break her alliance to save her.
etc. etc. etc.
I know you must have missed the memo that the whole point of the 100 is to show morally grey characters make decisions based on survival who then have to live with the consequences. In which case…. what show have you been watching for 3 seasons???? This is the case for every single character on this show. No one is exempt, no one is an angel (my url is a lie). No one is “pure”, no one is “innocent”, no one is realistically 100% a cinnamon roll. All of the characters have done questionable things.
The only thing that puts Bellamy away from the rest is the amount of scrutiny he is placed under by the fandom. He is not a privileged white male like people seem to believe. He does not have “man pain”. He is not unjustified in the things that he has done. He has made mistakes, yes, but that doesn’t set him apart from the other characters. The emphasis on his redemption, the amount of time it takes for him to be forgiven in canon, is actually what sets him apart. Bellamy needs to jump through hoops no other character has to jump through in order to be redeemed, and yet he’s the one some viewers, like yourself, seem to think is the least deserving of said redemption. Yes, Bellamy had a hand in the murders of members of an army sent to protect his people. He did NOT kill 300, in fact he was the only one trying to spare the wounded. Bellamy was misguided and wrong, a fact that he now knows, thus his second redemption arc. Let’s not forget the reasons behind his decision making in 3a, though. Bellamy had previously been abandoned by the grounders at MW, forcing him to have a hand in the deaths of people who helped him and trusted him. Still, Bellamy chose to trust a grounder, who led him away from MW only for it to be destroyed and everyone inside, including his girlfriend, killed. Bellamy has had zero reasons to trust the grounders, and zero reasons to believe that army wouldn’t turn on him, but sure cool believe what you want to believe.
Side note, in case you’ve conveniently forgotten, Bellamy is also the first person, apart from maybe Clarke, who would volunteer to go on a suicide mission. Bellamy got drained of his blood and tortured but still only cared about saving his people inside the mountain. Bellamy leveraged himself over a cliff to save a girl he didn’t know, immediately after seeing someone fall to their death doing the same thing. Bellamy took the place of a grounder he didn’t know to be drained of his blood. Bellamy raised his baby sister since he was a child and was willing to die upon landing on Earth to be with her. Bellamy believed himself to be a monster and would have let himself be shot in the mud if not for Clarke also being in danger. Bellamy tried walking on a stabbed leg to find Clarke because, newsflash, Bellamy cares about anyone and everyone more than he cares about himself. This is canon. This is fact.
But keep reaching.
Tootles.
