which you would think is pretty self-explanatory and impossible to argue against, right?
WRONG
immediately these are the kinds of responses:
because confronting racism is “making everything about him” and makes him an asshole. sure, ok, let’s go with that.
because explicitly stating that WHITE WASHING IS BAD YALL IT’S OFFENSIVE STOP DOING IT is “being vague” lmao. maybe you just don’t want to admit what his point is, because then you’d have to admit that this fandom has an issue with racism in the first place, and you might be part of the problem?
i literally have no words. for you to see a moc actively speak out against the racism he’s facing, and call him a “drama queen” because of it, i have no words for you. no one has words for you. you are clearly beyond basic comprehension skills.
and to agree to yet MORE WHITE WASHING WHILE DOING SO?? yall are gross.
(i blocked out the url’s because i don’t approve of anon hate and i know yall would get some if i published this, not because i’m afraid to call you out. you know who you are.)
it’s 2016 and the @ feature is still free
why don’t we talk about other problematic cases of white washing in hollywood like, for example, Frank Dillane playing Nick Clark, a white kid, when he’s half black, or Troian Bellisario playing Spencer Hastings, a white girl with two white parents, who is also half black and has been very vocal about her heritage in past interviews. There’s also Wentworth Miller, and if you wanna go into music, Halsey is biracial and is also whitewashed.
as a biracial person it irritates me when POC actors are cast to play “white” roles because their heritage is not being taken into consideration. they can “pass” for white and Hollywood perpetrates that whitewashing by casting these POC actors with white families or white child actors to play their younger selves.
white washing IS a problem in hollywood especially when a POC actor’s character is whitewashed to the point of casting a white child to play his younger self but
but i guess calling out the whitewashing in Hollywood makes me racist. whoops, i forgot, filipinos get darker and more filipino looking as they age my bad
((also literally the only thing that happened in that exchange was someone asked what bob did and i said he had posted something vague?? to me, vague was implying that it was uncertain who the tweet was calling out–was he calling out the fandom or the whitewashing in hollywood or something else entirely? that’s not being hateful, that’s me saying i have no idea what prompted that particular tweet. but go on, paint me as problematic. i know you will.))
Let’s start off with two things: I’m “Rude Person” and before you start calling me a racist I’m biracial but unlike dear Bobby here I’m not white passing. Since we got that out of the way, let’s now address this: actor’s race =/= character race. No one has ever disputed Bob’s ethnicity. Bob is Filipino, Bellamy isn’t. Many other Filipinos have come forward and said they wouldn’t have known Bellamy was Filipino if people hadn’t mentioned it. If Mr. Morley wants to be mad about people calling out the whitewashing of his character he should bring it up with Rotty and the rest of the writers. They created this mess and they’re the ones blatantly ignoring his race.
Bob, instead of trashing fans for having valid arguments, bring your concerns up with your showrunner who cast your mom, sister, and younger self as an obvious white kid. He wasn’t even ethnically ambiguous. That boy was straight up white. We’re not making this up. The receipts are in the show. Take a seat.
oh my god
this is actually so fucking disgusting.
and i have so many questions
why arent you stopping after you pushed the ACTOR to tweet about your racism (yes, erasure because of ship wars is racist af. whitewashing is not a privilege)
if you are biracial, why can’t you consider that maybe his mother and half sister are white because he too is BIRACIAL
why do you think bellamy is white? is it because of the kid who played bellamy in one episode? why does his race take precedence over bob’s race, who has been playing bellamy for 3 seasons?
why are you implying that all characters, even ones played by poc are white until proven otherwise? how is that not racist? then why is raven considered latina by yall?
why is this argument not used for lincoln? ricky is biracial too. where are the psa lincoln is a white man posts?
why is this logic not applied to lexa? why is she not bi/pan? why is she considered lesbian?
why do you continue to snatch representation away from filipinos? what do you get out of insisting that this brown man is white?
these are pictures of bellamy from “the show that has receipts of his whiteness”. from WHAT angle is this man white? or even white-passing?
why do you keep saying that the ONLY lead male filipino on us tv is white? what could possibly be your motivation for that?
why do yall refuse to reply when you are called out?
why do you think your opinion matters if you are not filipino?
why do you ignore the fact that kim and jroth said the characters ethnicity are the same as their actors and that bellamy and octavia are half siblings BECAUSE bob is not white like marie is?
do you realize what you’re doing is so very harmful to the filipino/brown asian poc community? do you realize that this is bullying? and that it does NOT matter if you are poc, you’re being racist?
and how dare you? seriously, how dare you? you think you can mock an actor who has in the past come out and spoken about how his asian heritage and features got him bullied? that his tweet is invalid because you don’t know the motivation for it? i’ll tell you the fucking obvious motivation: he is being constantly whitewashed by the clxa fandom because his character threatens their ship so they think they can pass him off as a ~privileged white fuckboy~. you’re really doing this over ships?
you pushed him to tweet this:
and you still have no empathy for him? for poc in general? you have the audacity to ACTUALLY call HIM ignorant? the show cast a white kid to play him for 5 minutes and that is your pass to constantly erase his race and be racist? and is he asks you to stop, he’s ignorant and it’s not your fault at all? and anyone defending him is sucking his dick? really?
why do you love to bring up lexa? it is not the same. race is NOT the same as sexual orientation. i can hide my sexuality, but never my race. it is the first thing people see about me. alycia is straight, fine. lexa is lesbian, fine. when it comes to characters, their is a difference between the race and sexuality of the actors playing them. race is always visible, sexuality is not. one glance, you can tell if someone is a poc or not (unless they are biracial etc) but you can’t do that for sexuality. if you see a brown girl on tv, your first thought will never be “she is white”, you will know that she is brown. the actor MATTERS when it comes to race. and it is not the same with sexuality, unless the character is either dressed in a sterotypical way, making out with someone of their gender or wearing a pride flag.
so why is bellamy white? there has to be a logic behind your racism. if he is played by a brown actor and his father is probably a black man (until ~proven otherswise~) if this logic is so sound, why are you all not screaming about iris west actually being white? or every single poc whos’ race has not been stated in canon? WHY IS THIS ONLY ABOUT BELLAMY BLAKE?
let’s put this into perspective: there have been 5-7 main lgbt characters on tv for the past 50 years. only one is a lesbian. it’s lexa. she’s wonderfully written and deep and allowed to be beautiful and loving and strong and emotional. she isn’t some stereotype. you’re overjoyed. you feel represented by her. you love her with all your heart. she resonates with you. and. the blarkes hate her. because she threatens their ship. almost every single one of them make hundreds of posts proving how she is in fact straight and it is all a misunderstanding somehow. they invade your posts, they constantly tell you to shut up. they pretend they know your minority better than you know it. there are hundreds of lead brown asian men on tv, and they still insist on snatching away the ONE lesbian you have ever seen on tv and calling her straight. she kisses girls, nah. they say it’s a guy. you post pictures of her kissing clarke, and they say it’s a guy. how do you feel?
that is how us asians feel. it breaks my heart to see se.asians on tumblr feel so hurt and upset by your racism. and before you attack me, i am a brown bisexual s.asian. i’m not lesbophobic. i am someone who has had enough of your nonsense so all i did was exchange bellamy with lexa.
but yeah, bellamy is white and bob is ignorant. sure.
and then you wonder why everyone calls you racist.
And while we’re at it; let’s establish that everyone includingPOCs can be racist. Race does not excuse someone from racist or wrong actions.
The whole concept of white passing is rather disgusting, because it assumes that because you personally don’t see someone’s ethnicity, they have some sort of privilege. You do not get to determine whether someone is white passing or not. Your personal view does not color that person’s entire world.
But that’s fine, ignore the fact that Kim Shumway herself has said Bellamy and O have different fathers. Ignore the fact that this whitewashing and blatant ignorance has gotten so bad Bob Morley himself has had to address it. No, because obviously you know a character of a show you don’t like, and a show you don’t even watch anymore, better than the actor who plays him.
Hey guess what, I’m white and I’m not calling him white passing. Yeah racism isn’t about people being white and people who are POCs aren’t “vaccined” against racist behaviors. That’s the problem with labels too; “hey I’m not erasing Clarke’s bisexuality, I’m LGBT too BUT she’s better representation with Lexaaa” Hey guess what, I’m straight AND white and I’m acknowledging Clarke’s bisexuality and the fact that Bob/Bellamy is biracial. Hooo groundbreaking… almost looks like I can respect minorities without “trending for them” just to use them. Hey to the people who felt “representated” by the tag “Minorities aren’t disposable”, sorry, the tag was actually “Lexaaa isn’t desposable” the rest… doesn’t exist.
