some disclaimers: i am a south asian bi girl, i ship clarke and lexa, i love lexa but i love bellamy more, and ik this might get in somehow but im not a fan of bellamy/lexa, platonic or otherwise. i have linked many wonderful metas to further explain what i meant and if you don’t want yours up, i will absolutely take it down.

i have seen way too many posts that go along the lines of “you can’t criticize lexa’s actions, character or racist getup (ie the bindi and brownface) because she’s lesbian and important representation”

why is lexa the only one to get these special considerations? like, don’t get me wrong, i love her character, but yall are biased as fuck. 

and you know what? its time you applied that logic to other characters. im talking about bellamy blake. who is a brown, south-east asian man.

let’s go into statistics. bellamy blake is more revolutionary than lexa.

he’s one of the only 3 southern asian main males ever on US tv (the other 2 being josh chan (crazy ex-girlfriend) and ravi chakrabarty (izombie).

lexa is a white wlw. there are dozens of other white wlw like her.

off the top of my head- there’s alex vause, amy from faking it, leslie shay, piper chapman, nicky nichols, stef foster, clarke griffin, nilyah, and mimi whiteman. and that’s just from the tv shows I watched/blogged about in the past two days.

so technically, your don’t-touch-lexa logic should apply a thousand times more to bellamy, right?

so, lexa betraying the arkers after using and torturing them is fine because it was a my-people-or-your-people moment. but you completely fail to get that bellamy was in an equally hard and urgent situation. 

bellamy was part of a group that was constantly attacked and killed by grounders, since day one. lexa was the one ordering the attacks, yes? the grounders attacked defenseless children the second they reached the ground, sent a virus into their camp, constantly threw spears at them, attacked during a peace meeting, came at them with an army, betrayed them and left then to die, and then betrayed them again, and blew another group of them up.

would any leader in their right mind let an army of these people sit at their doorstep? there was no guarantee they would not be betrayed a fourth time. they had lost too many lives to risk getting killed again. the grounders are a proven threat, and incredibly hostile. the arkers needed to keep their people safe. 

yeah, bellamy and pike (9 ppl actually) killing them is wrong but dude. the show is about murder. forget that bellamy taking life is ooc as fuck, that having the 3 ringleaders of the xenophobia club as poc is racist as fuck, that the idea of his 2nd redemption is racist  as fuck,,,, you’re demonizing bellamy for killing like 20 people. where the fuck is the bryan hate? oh wait, he’s a white man. nvm

so clarke killed ~300 ppl at mw too, right? finn killed what, ~30 people? raven created the bomb that killed an army of ~200. lexa has hundreds and hundreds of deaths on her. why the fuck is bellamy the genocide king? do you see where im going with this?

we get it. u love lexa. she is a grounder. so u love grounders. u dont wanna hate them for their constant attacks that could all be seen as declarations of war. coolio. but dont fucking crucify arkers for hitting back for the second time. the grounders attacks were uninstigated and got minimum retaliation. this isnt a peace contest. its a war.

i know in real world context, its shitty how the grounders have been demonized as ruthless irrational savages when they are the natives of the land and the arkers are the colonizers. it’s a racist parallel to colonialist genocides around the world. i live in one of those lands, my people still have your racist and homophobic ideals that are ruining my life, and my country is torn apart by problems like poverty and hatred that your ancestors caused. trust me, i know. 

but according to that line of thought, clarke is the white savior and privileged whitefeminist supremacist. you gotta hate her too. you can’t have it both ways. you can’t glorify both the white women, both of whom represent opposite views, while also shitting on ALL the poc, including the ones like luna who are native and peaceful. that’s alarmingly transparent. that just shows you are ONLY here for white women.

and the handcuff scene isn’t abusive. it’s the same as putting a death order on clarkes head and then not letting her leave. its shitty and wrong but wasn’t done as an act of power, manipulation, malice, cruelty or abuse. he did it to keep her safe, like lexa. again the white woman is loving and pure and the brown man is an abusive creep. and you’re not racist, as usual.

As a Clexa fan, I want to say something to my fandom: y’all are toxic. I love Clexa, I’m bisexual, and I’m not asian like Bob/Bellamy, but I’m also a mixed-race kid, and when you bend over backwards to prove Bellamy is white/has white male privilege, you’re hurting people like ME as well. You’re erasing the ethnicity of people like ME. You’re telling US that our identity isn’t valid. You’re telling US that our european side has more value than our POC side. Bellamy isn’t white. He doesn’t get white male treatment. He was BEATEN UP BY HIS WHITE SISTER while chained to a rock, was hanged by a racist boy with a sob story, was punched in the face by a girl he’d just met. I want you to name ONE scene when something even remotely as graphic happened to Clarke, Octavia, or any other of your white faves. But you know who suffered similar things? Lincoln, who was chained and tortured countless times, turned into a beast, got hit in the head with a fucking rock, was executed on his knees with a shot in the head. Raven, who was shot in the leg and disabled by the same racist white boy, tied to a pole to suffer the death by a thousand cuts, tied to an operating table and drilled into for bone marrow. Wells, who was murdered with a knife in the neck by a white kid who literally thought of him as a demon, whose body was left in the woods. Noticed how in most of these situations they’re tied up or chained, just like Bellamy? Octavia VOLUNTARILY put herself in the situation where she was beaten up by the Grounders. Lincoln, Bellamy and Raven had no choice, it was TORTURE. It was torture disguised as entertainment, made by and for white supremacists. Bellamy getting white male treatment is a racist myth.

Bellamy is a young MOC who has been brave and selfless from the beginning, from the moment his mom gave birth in front of him and told him it’s his responsibility to take care of his little sister. A boy who had to hide, lie and hurt to protect the ones he loves. A boy who had to sacrifice his mental health for their sake. A boy who still struggles, who’s still healing.

You can dislike Bellamy, but don’t you dare hate him for the same reasons you glorify Clarke, Abby and Octavia for. Don’t you dare call him abusive, when you cheered Octavia physically abusing him. Don’t you dare call him manipulative, when Clarke has no qualms about manipulating and using people to get what she wants. When he did it, it made him a monster, but when she does it, it makes her a strong female character. I fucking see you.

Guess what? Grounder culture makes no sense. Their culture should be close to our culture at this point in time, but somehow in 97 years they managed to envolve into a culture of war paint, bindi wearing uncivilized warriors. Most of the Grounders are white or in brownface, they’re led by a white girl in brownface and she’s portrayed as rational and reasonable while Indra, a black woman, is a violent savage. The Grounders have always been a messy cluster of stereotypes from different cultures made to look “exotic”. The Pike storyline was confirmed by Racistberg himself to parallel bigotry towards Muslims. Now, let me recap for you: the face of the Grounders is a white girl in brownface, and the hateful bigot is a black man, with a filipino man and a japanese woman as his sidekicks. When you have oppressed people in this day and age acting like the oppressors, your analogy DOES NOT WORK.

Behind every trait, costume and choice a character makes, there’s a writer and a costume, hair and makeup department, who project their bigotries onto the storylines and characters they create. This applies to Lexa, to Bellamy, to Jaha, to Pike, etc.

Stop ignoring the Grounders’ appropriative tattoos, brownface and Lexa’s bindi. Lexa’s important to WLW, but she’s not perfect.

If you see Lexa’s death as bad writing, but use Bellamy’s character assassination to fuel your hate, you’re transparent trash.
